clutch or no clutch..

gc9n created the topic: clutch or no clutch..

Hello there!!
i am new to the Boat world

I wanted to ask the guru of the forum ..
Is it better to run an rc gas boat with Clutch? Or without Clutch??...

I ask because if the boat has no clutch is a little difficult to handle; if it spins the propeller constant;

Sure I understand that a boat with clutch will loose top end because i will add components to the drive train

PS the place that i will run the boat is only sea
Thank you

This all boils down to user preference. In general racers will not use clutches because of extra losses in the drivetrain. Many sport boaters will opt for a clutch because of it's ease of use...ie: easier to launch, possibility to idle in position, etc...

The clutch will however require a water pump be installed in the boat for cooling the engine when the boat is idling (not moving).

Personally, for sport use I find a boat is much more fun with a clutch. :drinks:

You can get the complete clutch from Oneil Brothers for $60...not really worth looking for parts: www.oneillbrothers.com/rcboat/...info/clutch.htm

Here is a link to the pump: www.oneillbrothers.com/rcboat//pumps.htm

Warehouse Hobbies also carry a full line of clutch parts and pumps... www.whobbies.com
