Cowling Tethers

mitchesx created the topic: Cowling Tethers

Is anyone tethering their cowlings to their boats??? If so, what materials are you using? If you are without a row boat, and you have a flip, an electric retrieval boat is useless if they get seperated... I thought of using a wire fishing leader and a piece of wood epoxied and screwed into the hull and cowl. A little concerned about damaging one or the other, though.... What R U guys doing if anything?:?

Hi,
Thats exactly what I do (similar for exhaust muffler). It is better for a small repair than it is to get a new cowl. It ( breaks (very rarely):bye: in the wooden base that is epoxied to the cowl or boat. So it is no big deal.
Hope this helps your decision.
Graeme.

we just glue some of the flat (swimming noodle stuff) to underside ... just enough to make it float. When we tethered before it torn out and damaged boats. Just a thought we have rescue boat though..

Ditto that. I use bondo with noodle foam to put a small piece in my cowls. Doesn't take much.

You can try Gorilla glue on the foam in the cowls, works great. Add a little bit of water, glue and let set. :) Don't put too much, it foams up.

Hi guys - I think I wasnt too clear here - I have no problem with my cowls floating, but getting separated from the boat in a flip. I have been using a hammer retrieval boat, works great when they stall, but if I flip and the cowling comes off, its much more difficult. So I thought of tethering the cowling to make it easier to retrieve.

try putting a hook on your cowling that the retieval boat can snag.
