Need a little help on my first purchase

vick22 created the topic: Need a little help on my first purchase

Hi,

I'm new to the forums and new to the hobby. I have been researching boats and rc things. I was wondering if you guys could share your thoughts on my selection so far and answer a few questions. I have decided I want a gas mono that can go 40 mph plus. The only problem is I'm on a budget. I have already selected my engine: a zenoah G260. In fact, I just bought one off ebay. Here's a link.

cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...e=STRK:MEWNX:IT

First some questions about the engine... Does it need a water jacket? Can it be air cooled? Will they overheat if air cooled? If it needs to be water cooled what else is needed to be purchased to make that happen?

I am buying an easy vee hull made by zippkits.

www.zippkits.com/

They said that engine could easily push it into the 40 mphs even without upgrades. I can handle the trim tabs, prop, fuel tank, epoxy, and rudder, radio, and servos. I am not sure what to buy or if I need these items:

what fuel line and how long?
a fuel filter?
cables?
shafts?
drive dogs?
stuffing tubes?
"stinger drive"?
control horns?
(I do not know anything about the previous 6 things mentioned)
What is needed for exhaust? ( header? pipe? )
Am I leaving anything else out?
(I am just a kid with no mechanical skills or knowledge)
Please give some feedback one what items I will need. Inexpensive but not terrible quality. Links appreciated.
I may edit with more questions that arise.

Thanks for your time,

a new boater

Edit: hows this fuel tank? (big enough for the easy vee and that zenoah?)

hows this epoxy?(how many should I buy? do I need any other glue?)

Thanks again

I just checked the Zippkits website and they have pretty much everything you might need to complete the Easy Vee. Some things you can make yourself if you're handy, others you should not try unless you have special tooling required, some are just not worth the time when compared to the cost.

what fuel line and how long? : tygon Large (yellow PVC)-2-3 feet will do.
a fuel filter? : Dubro Large scale or similar
cables? : 1/4" flex cable (I recommend welded type) 24" and cut to size. You will also need a collet for you Zenoah.
shafts? : see cables
drive dogs? : yes...1/4" Aeromarine or similar
stuffing tubes? :
yes...5/16" K&S brass tubing.
"stinger drive"? : yes, many brands available. A strut would work also and be cheaper.
control horns? : throttle linkage required. Order a set of engine mounts with throttle bellcrank integrated.

*** for gas tank you can use a rigid tank, but make sure to get the GAS conversion for it. They come with stopper for nitro, gas will eat it up in no time. Alternatively you can use an IV bag setup. 500ml . *I recommend the IV bag.

Simplest thing for you would be to ask Joe at Zippkits to put together a little hardware kit for the boat excluding the parts you will make yourself to save $.

If your budget is not an issue, here is a good exhust system to consider buying, a 2 stage 1" or 2" band pipe system, stainless steel header and no leak flange, $185.00us.

Thanks, but I did say that I'm on a budget... anyone know of something in the 50 dollar range?

If you want to stay in the $50 range, you will have to stick with a stock canister muffler or find a used pipe somewhere, but $50 will be hard to do for a pipe.

Just saw a QD pipe in this post: www.modelgasboats.com/option,c...atid,3/id,7401/ $75. That could work for you.

Thanks Marc, found a tuned pipe set on ebay for 58. Some chinese stuff... probably junk but it will work for the time being.
