rudder problems

cracker-p33 created the topic: rudder problems

Hello: I am fairly new to rc boats. I built a 5' 8" all wood boat off of old plans my buddy had. It is a hurricane from jj enterprises (posted pics in the gallery).Runs nice with the 1.3 horse Shindiawa engine ,not a race boat just a toy for me and my two sons. I built the rudder and the drive shft all my self because parts are kinda hard to get unless you get it off the internet. My problem is i am changing the golden rod from the servo to the rudder to metal rods to improve turning but the arc the rudder sweeps when turning means i will have to cut a large hole or slot in the transom in order to allow the rods enough room to move. I have tried moving the rods inner most holes on the rudder to decrease the raduis. Still have to make a large hole, any help would be apreciated. Thanks Ken

Closer to transom, worse the issue is. But NOT too worry, push rod to rudders are above the water line, so do open a hole as needed to get the clearance required.

Most R/C boats have @ 1/4" or slotted for just this reason.

THANKS alot for the help. It might have to be larger than 1/4 inch, maybe 3/8. but it is above the water line. Thanks again, Ken
