Quest to 55

Hardtime created the topic: Quest to 55

Ok new and may need a little help.
Boat is a Venom Segad 58", 16 lbs. 26cc Sikk stock no clutch, stock carb. w/o choke, B.H Hanson RPM pipe. Ya I know, not a race boat but I like the scale look and man it's fun to "drive".
So far thanks to parts from Maston's R/C I've been able to hit 53.4MPH
50 on smooth water, 53 on a little chop no problem.
Now the goal is 55+. Am I expecting too much from this motor in such a large boat? Another 3-4 mph would be perfect for me.
One problem is the header pipe it has a 3-2 bend. Well that's 5" doesn't leave room to tune the pipe less than 13.25". So far I think I'm doing ok for what I have y/n ?
Any advise, help, comments and no I'm not buying a new boat :)
Thanks
P.S. Does anyone make a short strut with a skeg?

Me too Scott:?
Have choice of a few props. Like the Voodoo "Cats Ass" as a 6717-3 cavitates alot. For 2blade I like my 6915 but am while I'm type polishing an ABC H-31 in hopes it will push me that little extra bit.
Thanks for the reply Scott.
Heck half the fun is the tinkering anyhow. I'll check out that Octura strut.

Big Cat and a torque engine would go BIGGER in diameter and shallower in pitch ratio.

A GREAT big Cat prop would be a stock ABC 2814/2 or 3014/2 with tongues cut back @ 1/4". These props are VERY efficient with little slip. On BIG hulls don't get caught up it the high pitch hydro prop mentality !!
Big hulls are too sticky having those radical props slip like the dickens.

Try it, you will like it :drinks:

Checked out that strut. Looks like just the thing now to find one.
Woow tried the ABC H31 from an rolling start it took off like a drag boat. Lifted the front of the hull about a foot and almost rolled at the same time. Slowed alot in the corners but top speed was good .....56.7mph, perfect water, 4-5" chop slight wind. Maybe abit too much prop though. Realy like how this boat rides just skimming the top of the chop.
Yes, it seems to like props 68mm+ and pitch in the 1.4-1.5 range. Although that Cat's Ass prop does well on the short coarse with little loss of speed in the corners, hope that skeg helps, nice in the mid power too and lower 50's for speed. So there ya go nice big 2 blade for speed and the 4 blade for short coarse for now. Will get custom prop over winter.
Next, start big water testing 4"-12" rollers. Will add new carb.and zero friction seals.
Thanks again Scott. Lets let the fun begin.
Now if I could only figure how too get the vids off my camera...where's the Boy at? :bye:
