New to radio controled boats

lapistola28 created the topic: New to radio controled boats

Good day gentlemen . I'm brand new to the scene and i just purchased a Venom Strait Jacket XL from Tower Hobbies . I have yet to run it because , as i have learned from your site that a boat with a clutch should have a water pump , mine doesn't . I have ordered one and i'm waiting for it to arrive . My question is ... What is the quality of this boat ? I have found nothing on the web about it . Nothing on youtube either . I know it was a inexpensive way to get into the hobby but i hope it's not a really bad boat . Hope some one can help here

Hi
Did u add the clutch after ?? I thought this boat came without a clutch?

Venom Strait Jacket XL RTR Gas Boat

Equipped with a 26cc Marine Engine
3-Channel Programmable FM Transmitter

I didn't see a clutch in any pics

Whatever boat u pick the idea is to have FUN with what u like or can afford, the boat says RTR (Ready to Run) so with some batteries and gas u should be in business.

Should be fun ... was the clutch something extra or was it added by u ?

Looks like a fairly new item from Venom -

Couple friends have / had Venom boats ... good boat to start ... nice way to get foot into GAS RC door for a affordable price...

Do u know that to add a water pump (unless electric) u need to tap intake for vacuum fitting to run pump??

I enjoy my boats (I have several - 6 gas ) because it allows me to spend time (building and running) with my 23 year old son ... gives us some thing to do together

Do u need info on installing water pump?

i printed off the information that is on the site for the installation of the water pump . Thank you for asking though . Do you know of anyone who has run one of these boats yet ? i would just like a heads up on what to expect . I'm not expecting it to leave a trail of boiling water because it's so fast , but i need to learn how to drive first anyway . And i swear ... It has a clutch in it that i didn't install :).

no problem ...I run clutches in most all my boats (I'm just a sport boat guy I live in Northern Canada so no one for me to race anyways)and I like to bring them in and havea look without stopping and starting so I like clutches

My friends had the King of Shaves = pretty decent boat not perfect but great fun and ran good most of time .... no diff than my custom made twin engine boats ....

You will find out little by little what your boat likes ... glass water or a little chop ... my Cats like a little chop ... my son's runs great on glass smooth

You really have to just run it ... did u invest in a 'fail safe' .... one of first things on our boats .... VERY FIRST IS FLOATATION (noodles) installed

Don't forget some foam glued into hatch ... nothing sucks like flippin' one and watchin' hatch sink because I forgot foam

I had thought of the noodle thing and the foam on the hatch cover . But i hadn't thought of the fail safe ! Where can i get one of those and how do i hook it up ? Thanks again ... This site is the best ! I live in Bermuda , we have no hobby shops here . I have to get everything off of the internet .

I live in Northern Canada so I know the feeling of ordering, waiting and paying way more $$$$$ than some of my american friends

You should be able to get a fail safe from many places .... The one I use is Venom (same as ur boat) get for about 25.00 here

Bruce at Gizmomotors (add to right on my screen) sells the Venom and is a well known reliable and a great guy

www.gizmomotors.com/index.php?...id=13&Itemid=56

or click on GIZMOMOTORS ADD and go to radio gear

oh to hook it up unplug thottle servo from rx plug in fail safe INLINE with thottle servo (keep color of wires same order)
to adjust
- turn boat powere on failsafe will flash red ,
- turn controller on flashing will stop,
- now turn controller off (will flash again)
- adjust little screw in front of fail safe (when u turn u will see thottle servo go up and down)
- set it for idle

If you lose range or volts the failsafe should kick in and will move your thottle to whatever you set it to (idle or stop)

later
