Testing in Cincinnati

Video #1:
Troy Hammons has his scratch built gas rigger running like a nitro. It took him 3 years to perfect this design and now it is absolutely unbelieveable. Rumor has it he may offer this to the public!

Troys Gas Rigger

Video #2:
Blazer Marine Lauterbach with a stock RCMK S254 with a CC Racing 2" Aluminum Powermaster Pipe. 63 MPH in the video.
Lauterbach With Pipe

Video #3 is the same boat/engine/prop, but instead of a tuned pipe, it is a straight exhaust (3' long coupler). Shocked the boat ran over 59mph! Now think about this...no pipe (minus $170) with about the same results. A little slower in the turns, but this is how the real boats ran anyway.
Lauterbach Without Pipe

Video #4 is Harry Websters Gas Sport Hydro Whiplash. Consistantly ran in the 78mph range

Brian,

Those boats are all running awesome! The rigger and the Whip make the course look like its 250 ft long!!!

I can't believe the T-boat ran that fast without the pipe! That's as fast (if not faster) than most other T-boats out there! Kinda proves that tuned pipes aren't really required in this class (save $)and that it won't really change much if pipes are removed or kept.

Great vids!

I was shocked with the speed of the thunderboat without the tuned pipe. Our boat only weighs 16lbs. I wonder what the results would be if someone with a 20-25lb tried it. TEST TEST TEST.

Next time out we will test the same setup with a muffler, and change out the motors to a stock Zenoah as required by IMPBA D2 this year.

Keep us posted Brian. That's amazing for an engine without a pipe. I'm looking forward to seeing what the results are for the stock Zenoah with the same setup. It definitely would help keep price down for the class if they could be run with straight pipes and a simple muffler (water injected possibly to keep noise down more).

As for Harry's Whip, you say consistent 78mph range...is the boat steady at these speeds for heat racing also? That's blazing fast!!! To be honest I haven't GPSed my Whip, but if I had to guess I'd say it's running around 70 give or take a few. Mind you I really haven't had much test & tune time.

Marc,

The boat is stable in testing, but I doubt it will heat race at those speeds. You want to be in the 68mph range in my opinion. Harry is more optimistic than I am though.

Ok thank you for the honest answer...I guess, I'm pretty much where I should be with mine. I raced it in London against some VERY well setup Whiplashes, and for it's first time out, I really didn't feel left behind, and was more that happy with the performance of the boat! It was fast and handled like a dream! :drinks: At this point it all boils down to driver skill and a bit of luck. :)

I think 2Malibus figured my Lauterbach will weight in about 19lb. I have a Sikk I bought, but will soon be buying a stock zen..No big deal, Hope to have the lauterbach done over the winter. Thanks for all the info Brian.

Marc it's fast as all get out BUT with 5 or 6 other boats I know it wouldnt stay on the water, unless I could get out front on the start. I did run with Troy's glass whip and it handled the water pretty good. I'll try to post some video I have as well where I am running a tighter line with troys glass boat. I had three seperate runs in the 78 range and the best being 78.9. To race it I would definatly tune it down. For me it's me against myself most of the time. I have raced a few local events but testing is where it's at for me. wouldn't mind a SAW or oval event.
