Cheap 2.4ghz sets

hooper created the topic: Cheap 2.4ghz sets

Hi everybody i'm new to this forum, Lol
Does anyone know if these budget 2.4 sets are any good.? I'm currently building up a zen powered trple X and would hate to see it trashed. In the Uk there is one called PLANET 5 but i cant find any spec such as range etc. They seem too good to be true for the price! someone told me a large rooster tail can affect the signal!!!
Any help would be GREAT ..........Cheers...........

I bought a tactic ttx240 for $80 and it worked great the first time out on a big dirty rough lake. I took it to the club pond that is perfectly calm and clean and about 50 yards out it would go into failsafe mode. Anoather guy with the same radio was having the same problem. I came home and put the radio in a car and it worked perfectly at close to a quarter mile. I talked to the hobby shop and they said there were problems with the signal bouncing off the water, and that they made special receivers but didnt have any. Everyone on here says the Futaba fasst 2.4 works great so i think ill try that.

Hello and welcome both of you to MGB!!

I run the Futaba 2.4 Fasst systems in my Gas and Nitro boats and I will say I have had ZERO problems!! However your thread is about CHEAP 2.4 systems and the Futaba Fasst 2.4 is in the middle to high end of the pricing!!

hi i see you mentioned the planet5 2.4ghz transmitter.
i bought this back in october and have had no bother with it at all
i belive it was ment for gliders and helicopters so it has a good range , i have spoke to someone who uses it in a glider and it is his range of sight that limits him lol.
as long as the reciver is not used in a submarine i see no problems

If your current radios have modules that can be replaced, you might want to look up Xtreme Power Systems... they probably have modules to upgrade your radio to their 2.4 system. I've been using their stuff in my old JR-R1 units without any problems at all for 2 years now. They're awesome.

Hi,
The problem with some 2.4 systems is as you say the signal is bouncing off the water and cannot penetrate rooster tails. Specktrum had this problem for quite sometime I heard they have now fixed this. I had one and sold it to a car guy who thought it was great. Futaba have had real success with their frequency hopping system. They are not cheap but Bruce at Gizmo has some very reasonably priced Futabas. Check with him you will be pleasantly surprised. As for US radio signals you will find you will not have any problems as for legalty in the UK as these are the same frequency.
Hope this helps.

I run Fasst and dont even run the antenna's outside the radio box. I can drive my gas cat away from me further than I need to and not one glitch to date. The RX I use is a dual antenna R617FS

Several months ago I ask the same question. After using a Futaba 7C 2.4 for my airplanes for over a year there perfomance is awsome. I decided two save up for for a Futaba 3PK 2.4 and I am very impressed. Progressive throttle curves, progresive servo rates,so much cool stuff. Multi model memory is getting me motivated to save and get receivers for some of my old Dumas Chris Craft boats that have not run for over 15 years! One radio + multiple models = more fun! I know they are not cheap but worth saving for.

im actually going to get one of these for my smaller electric boats hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/...hz_2Ch_Tx_&_Rx_

I have a mate with the 6ch model in a park flier which I built for him, the 6ch RX is compatible with the wheel radio which is great as they are only $12 usd and have an antenna unit built in but also a remote antenna, I can fly the cessna out of sight vertically and between me and the guy who owns it flying it have not experienced a single glitch.. Im not saying use them in an expensive boat, but for a rescue craft or a cheap FE boat, they are good value.
