Stinger Drives

seaboyblue created the topic: Stinger Drives

Hi Guys,

I'm about to start a new mono project. I want to get you guys opinion on what drive to use. I have seen many out there. I have used the Insane stinger drive in the past due to easy adjustment. What do you guys prefer to use and find easier to work with?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Anthoni

I really like the Speedmaster drive since it's been revamped a bit lately. Easy to make fine adjustments. The Insane is nice too, but it adjusts more like a strut. I use both, and like both.

I like also the drive from Bob DeCortin. it is more beefy and stronger as the Speedmaster. Of course it is also more heavier...
The Speedmaster is a good drive, too. But in my opinion the drive from Bob has one advantage: It needs not so many different tools to adjust it. 2 L-keys and 1 wrench, that's it. Only 2 different sizes of screws, makes it easy to have some spare parts in the box...

Marc: Thanks a lot. I have never used the speed master system but have use the Insane on a previous boat. I had no luck with the Insane stinger being that I kept stripping the threads for adjusting. Looks good though. Maybe I was over-tightening.

Roger: How can I get in touch with Bob. Do you have a pic of his drive?

I'm a huge fan of the Retallick Engineering stinger, it's set up for a square flex at the engine & is easily adjusted up and down vertically as well as angle adjustments. The prop shaft runs on needle bearings which are easily maintained with a grease nipple on the stinger. One screw and the whole flex and needle bearing cartridge can be removed from the boat to be stored in oil when not in use.
