Hello Peter,

You have come to the right place for info. There are plenty guys here on MGB to help you with your new cat. Can you give us a little more details of the hull?
What type of cat do you have? Pictures can help us as well.

Will need to know what cat it is to give you any kind of baseline info for it. Not all cats like the same CG. Also need to know what your intentions are with the boat (IE play boat only running in calm water, race boat racing in all water conditions, etc.) What is it going to be powered with?

Strut and Rudder are relatively common setups, but again it depends on the boat. All of my cats I offset the strut to the RIGHT (when looking at the transom) 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch.. and mount the rudder so it is INLINE with the right stringer.

When we know what cat you have..can try to give you a baseline CG for it. You want to keep the motor and pipe as low as you possibly can in the boat... this keeps the CG LOWER in the boat, so it is less prone to wanting to blow off easily. Even if you have the balance point dead on.. if you have the motor and pipe way up in the boat, it will still want to be a flighty boat.

You might want to check out Marc's conquest build in the boat review section. It is a pretty good build with some great tips and pics included.

You cannot simply go by a transom to plug distance to determine your CG. If you know where the boat needs to be balanced (IE 32%, 33%, 34% etc.) then you need to mount all the hardware, put all the radio gear in the radio box and put it in the boat, and then you need to put the motor & pipe in the boat and move it around until the boat balances where you want it.
