Reader Reviews

marc created the topic: Reader Reviews

I've been seriously thinking of taking MGB back to its roots and letting readers post some of their own reviews of boats they own. I'm wondering how many people would actually be interested in doing that?

Of course there is work involved, but I think it would be a great way for people to actively participate and contribute. It's always more interesting to be part of something than to be watching from the sidelines I think!

It would have to be written up in article form with good quality pictures and some video footage of the boat in action. The reviewer gives his/her comments on the boat and products used. We would publish the reviews on the website here in a section dedicated to reader reviews. Of course we wouldn't post bashing, but a good honest evaluation of the products, with pluses and minuses would be the goal. We can't do them all, and I know for a fact there are a lot of guys and gals out there with experience with a lot of boats and accessories.

If I can get feedback on this and see that enough people would be interested in doing that, I will get things setup. Basically all you as a reviewer would have to do is submit the writeup, pictures and video and I would do the formatting and publish it to the site. Would look just like all the other review articles, but with your name on it. :)

Let me know what you guys think. I would like to start with boats, and probably move on to engines, pipes, and everything else boat related.

* a good example would be the AC Lazer 45 review published on the site... this article was done by Dom Mauro when we were first starting out. It is a great article. The only thing I would ask extra is for new reviews to include a video clip, to actually let others see how the boat runs.

*** let's see a show of hands, who would be willing/wanting to do this kind of stuff?

I would love to see some reviews from regular folks. Having feedback on a build from someone that has not built hundreds of boats already would be really helpful for newer people. The guys that have been building for years may not comment or even run into some of the snags that a new builder might run into. Knowing about those little things might be more helpful than a professional builders how to.

Think it is a great Idea Marc.

Start writing guys. Send them to me with pics and video and we'll get them up! Just remember to write me first describing what you want to write about and I will approve (or disapprove it) before you put all the work into it. In most cases it will be a go though. Hopefully we will get many contributions. I also like the idea of the new guys submitting their feedback and points of view on their projects! :drinks: Having built so many boats, some of us take a lot of simple things for granted and can sometimes leave the newer guys in the grey...we try not to, but I'm sure it happens.

Seeing other reviews of boats and motors and mfg.s is a great idea. This way it helps newbies and even us seasoned vets. We get to see what is working and what isn't.

Please any reviews of boats if they are running setups and things include props and who made any mods and what mods to them. It helps but remember every setup is always a little different. What works for 1 person doesn't always work for all.

I love the idea mark. I have been reading yours on the Conquest so I can build my new boat this winter.

I got a nitro rigger I am converting to gas for this summer. Don't know if that would make a good story or not.

As a newbie to gas, I think this is a great idea. Good way to showcase if the help from experts is reflected in the newbie results/reviews!!!

I can say without the help given here by Marc, others and from reviews, selecting and setting up my first gas mono would have been a painful experience!

Anything that helps a new boater get closer to getting it right the first time is a real winner!!

Don't copy my Conquest setup, I will have to race against you!!! ha ha!!!

The nitro to gas conversion would make a good how-to I think Teddy. If you want to document it with pics and video and do a little step-by step writeup we will definitely publish it. :drinks:

Marc, I got to be able to compete in cat. The sprint cat with a stocker just wasn't cutting it. I got the conquest and am collecting all the parts for the build this winter.

I can put together a write up on the rigger for you and some pics of the build as it goes along. It will take awhile til the ice thaws before it sees water.

The boat will be a 80/90 nitro rigger I have never seen before. I also have a RCMK Rear Exhaust motor I have never used before. Pre-pullstart model. Keeping with the nitro feel. Got to find a good cowl for it. Most of the work was done being an old nitro hull with a 90 in it. The tub is very unique. So I am waiting.

I know it would be easier to just get a gas rigger that is proven but what would the fun in that be. This will show guys that those nitro hulls you have lying around or see for sale cheap can be used to race.

It would be a great idea even thru the build procces to setup on the water or if already built. Bc theres so many diffrent ideas and little shortcuts that help out. And it will give people an easier way to find info on the boat there looking 2 buy. Tim
