Which brand failsafe????

skyray created the topic: Which brand failsafe????

I was reading a couple of the post on here about some of the fail safe units but it seems about all of them had some drawback and were not specifically designed for our use!The one that was the most suited was one from Shark Racing I believe is no longer avaiable???? the website is closed or something to that effect? So what are you fellows using? namebrand? and where to get one??anyone tried rubber bands attached to throttle arm instead of a rigid spring which would be fighting the sevro and drawing a lot of amps?one could adjust the amount of tension by adding or subtracting rubberbands until you get just enough tension to close the throttle sevro? (just my thinking,is worth a try????)

Personally I like the units that shut the engine down by grounding the coil. You can get such units from MHZ and Warehouse Hobbies. There are others also.

Since most failures happen in the radio box, a good failsafe should shut down the engine without battery power when the signal or power is lost. It should also shut down the engine if the throttle servo fails. A strong throttle return spring is a seldom used possibility. It takes a lot of power from the battery during normal operation.

A more dependable system with 2.4 GHx radios (they greatly reduce interference problems over 75 MHz radios) is to use two reveivers with two switches and two battery packs. If you connect the servos to the receivers with a Y harness, it is very unlikely that you will loose both steering and throttle. Transmitter signal loss is handled by the standard transmitter fail safe. You need to test each receiver separately during your radio check to be sure both are working.

How much do you sell yours for??? and what function does it address?( shorting out coil when lose of power? interference, low battery,???) everyone here seems to perfer grounding the ignition with power failure type.....might be interested in one of yours though?any info is appreciated....thanks1

it grounds the coil with loss of power, or voltage drops below 5v (you can only use these with 6+v systems). They are $25 shipped in the US.

Where are you located??Does that include shipping??? I am in eastern N.C.( Not sure what my voltage is??? I have a 1800 mah sub c cells rechargable but it may be just 4.8 volts??? as nicads are only 1.2 volts, correct????I have the heavier batteries due to the quater scale servo which was recommended........Do you have something that will work with my voltage??(just bought this pack!seems to work well otherwise).....

Yes that includes shipping. I do have one that will work with less then 6v, though if you are using 1/4 scale servo IMO you should be using 6v.

A relay that holds the contact grounding the kill circuit open is a good solution but still doesn't address the problem of servo failure.

Very true. But if the servo were to short and start pulling alot of current id think it might cause it drop below 5v thus triggering the relay. Just my thoughts...probably wrong. I do know from experience ive yet to have a servo go bad, but have had switches go bad and connections lose contact(unplug a little).
